Obituary for James P. Bowler

Mr. James P. Bowler, age 92, a lifelong resident of St. Albans, passed away Wednesday evening at the University of Vermont Medical Center, surrounded by his family. He was born in St. Albans, April 14, 1927, son of the late Edward and Catherine (Hackett) Bowler. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Jim graduated from St. Michaels College in 1950. October 30, 1950, he married Janet Boss. Janet predeceased him February 2, 2008. Jim worked for 38 years as an Inspector for the United States Customs. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed gardening, watching gameshows, winter vacations in the south with Janet, but most of all, he will be fondly remembered by many for his love of telling jokes. Jim was a communicant of Holy Angels Church and a member of the American Legion Post #1 of St. Albans.

Jim is survived by his five children, Susan Allard and her husband Stephen of St. Albans, Sandra Lovelette and her husband Phillip of Enosburgh, Peter Bowler and his wife Christine of Gilford, NH., Jane Brown and her husband Leon of South Burlington, and Paul Bowler and his wife Lille of St. Albans, sixteen grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Donald and Jean Boss of Williston, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife Janet, he was predeceased by his sister Elizabeth Finnegan,

Jim’s family will receive condolences on Monday, June 3, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main Street, St. Albans.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at 11:00 AM in Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church with Father Joseph Ikegbunam as the celebrant.

Interment will follow in the Bowler family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery.
