Obituary for Marilyn Ann Johnson

Mrs. Marilyn A. Johnson, age 81, passed away March 27, 2018, at Copley Medical Center in Morrisville, VT. She was born in Newark, NJ, July 5, 1936, daughter of the late Robert and Josephine (Kelly) Griffith. In was in her early years that Marilyn developed a love for sports, and she was a star basketball player at Immaculate Conception High School in Montclair, NJ. Marilyn is in their sports Hall of Fame, inducted on November 24, 1984. Marilyn met Walter Johnson in 1959. After their meeting, Walter went home and told his mother “I met the woman I’m going to marry.” On August 27, 1960 Marilyn and Walter were married. They started their family in NJ but moved to Vermont in 1970. They lived many years in St. Albans, until retirement and the warm weather of Florida called them south. They were married for 49 years. Her “Skip” predeceased her in death on July 25, 2009. Marilyn raised 6 wonderful children, and she spent many years driving them all to sporting events and sitting on the sidelines as their number 1 cheerleader. She will be remembered for her love of sports, especially the New York Yankees, New York Giants, and college basketball.

Her survivors include her children, Patti Wolff and her husband Tom of Hyde Park, Linda Lewis and her husband Russ of Sequim, WA, Glenn Johnson and his wife Tammy of Milton, Matt Johnson and his wife Sarah of Maryville, TN, Dan Johnson and his wife Tina of Theresa, NY, her daughter-in-law Kerrie Johnson of Bradford, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marilyn was predeceased by her parents, her brother Robert, her sister Eilleen, her loving husband Walter, and her beloved son Michael.

The family will receive condolences on Saturday, March 31, 2018 from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM, in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main Street, St. Albans. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 2, 2018 at 10:00 AM in Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church. As an alternative to flowers, memorials may be made to the Sgt. Michael Johnson Scholarship Fund, c/o Dan Marlow, BFA High School, St. Albans, VT.
